Good Morning Upper School Parents,
Thank you! We as a community are not only accomplishing our goal of providing a JCS education through distance learning; we're getting better at it together. This requires intentional communication, both delivering and reading. It also demands that we are patient with one another and I'm grateful for everyone's efforts.
I wanted to add, for anyone who has sent a note to myself or to the teachers; it means the world. This is new for most of us and the encouraging notes are lifting hearts and making a difference. Thank you!
Updates:
First, I am attaching three documents, one is a ZOOM Calendar for the remainder of this week. Each week we will post this information on the JCS Distance Learning page, as well as email a new version over the weekend to parents as we gather the needed information from teachers. I hope this calendar helps students plan their week and feel confident in their class schedule.
**We will not be sharing the PMI numbers on the calendar for security purposes. Teachers will be sending that information under "Assignments" on their Portal. We have had cases where students are "covering" for one another. JCS cares deeply about your child's education and we want the actual student in class. Please help us by monitoring your child as you are able from home.
The second piece is a monthly calendar that was created by Mrs. Flesch to help students write down their work or enter their "live" classes. It can be a tremendous tool, not only through our Distance Learning experience, but an organizational tool for life.
Lastly, is a FAQ page. We can add to this page as questions arise. Please let us know how we can best support you.
Teacher Needs:
During live classes students do not have to show their faces, however we have noticed an increase in students who choose not to be visible. While there may be legitimate reasons for this, we also see this as a temptation to be watching television, listening to music or some other activity other than class. Please encourage your child to "be present" when class is live. Their participation is important and we all want to be successful.
Please have your child be at a desk or somewhere that is conducive to learning. Please refrain from docking the boat, being in bed, or on a pool lounger while in class. We are taking this seriously and want our students to do the same.
When your child does not know where the assignment is or is confused, please
1) Check Portals - specifically in the assignment page under each class.
2) Don't panic; if students are sincerely trying, teachers know, and will give grace.
3) Look through the last communication for information and read it carefully.
4) If the student is still confused, email the teacher for clarification.
Seniors:
We are having a Senior Friday Night Zoom Party at 8:00 pm, please be dressed appropriately or in your creative First Responder Hero attire. We'll have some fun games and then have some optional break out rooms to discuss end of the year activities. We want our Seniors to know we have not given up on their final year. We may have to modify, adapt and innovate, but we aren't close to giving up these events. Seniors deserve to be recognized.
