Dear JCS Families,
Our first week of Distance Learning is complete, and we are so incredibly proud of our students, parents, and faculty for the way our JCS family has come together during this time. We are blessed that through JCS Distance Learning we are able to continue to provide excellence in Christian education and fulfill our mission to inspire servant leaders for Christ. Through engaging and inspiring Zoom video conferencing courses, our students are able to maintain that critical school community connection, join in thoughtful discussions, engage in academic instruction, and find ways to be creative and joyful all in the midst of an uncertain time. As Christians, we can be assured during this time that while we don't know what tomorrow may hold, we know Who holds tomorrow. Psalm 46:1 tells us that "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
As we collectively join in prayer for our community, nation, and world, I would like to ask that we also come together to pray for one of our faculty members, Upper School Science Teacher Mrs. Kippy Carman. Mrs. Carman has been ill with pneumonia and has just tested positive for COVID-19. At this time, she is resting at home and asking for our prayers. During this recovery time, she has requested to continue to remotely teach her classes, and while we have asked her to just take this time to rest, her heart for her students compels her to continue to teach in her home environment. We know our JCS family will respond with overwhelming prayers of healing for her and many of you will want to do even more to support our sister in Christ at this time. Mrs. Carman is an amazing example of a Joyful Courageous Servant for Christ and has been such a blessing to so many of us. Please reach out to Nancy Loud, if you want to be a part of a support system for her through meals or supplies.
In addition, to our fervent prayers for our dear JCS family member, our school community is called to do what we can, especially now, to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the world. We know at this time there is a great need among our doctors, nurses, medical workers, and first responders for personal protective equipment as they serve those who are suffering with this virus. Our JCS nursing staff, along with Outreach Director Chelsea Gunn, have coordinated to provide an opportunity for our community to join in a JCS Cares Outreach Project to make masks that will be delivered directly to those heroes on the front lines of this crisis. If you and/or your student would like to be a part of this effort, please reach out to Chelsea Gunn via email, where arrangements will be made to pick up the material provided by JCS and once complete, the masks can be mailed back to us for delivery to the medical workers. In honor of these brave heroes of the medical community, next Friday, April 3rd, will serve as a school-wide dress down day, where our students and faculty are encouraged to dress as first responders/super heroes in their Zoom classes. For those who may not be able to sew masks, but still want to help make a difference, families can make thank you cards and send them to the first responders or hospitals of their choice and let them know that our JCS family is praying for them and thankful for their service.
During this time, please join me in praying for healing for Mrs. Carman and all those who are suffering with illness at this time, for protection and good health for our JCS families, and for strength and endurance for our first responders. God's Word give us the wonderful assurance that we don't have to do this alone. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
