Greetings Parents and Friends,
It's hard to believe the first semester of the 2019-2020 school year is quickly drawing to a close. So much has been happening over these last few weeks that I'd love to share with you! We have wrapped up our Thanksgiving Food Collection. Using rounding and multiplication skills, fourth and fifth graders calculated the total number of ounces of each specific food item collected. They shared this information with third grade, who is learning about graphs and they created a large graph to show the results. DRUM ROLL please.... We are proud to announce that the West Campus collected and donated 262 pounds of food!
Second grade students visited our first grade friends on the East Campus this week and participated in a Thanksgiving Readers Theater! Fifth grade students volunteered at Quantum House as a culminating activity to the literary unit study on the book Wonder. Students planned, prepared, and served brunch two mornings at the facility and played games with the patients and their families.
One fifth grade parent shared that when her child got in the car she said, "mommy, that made me feel really.....(long pause)... lucky. Can we go back?". She added that her student truly enjoyed the experience at Quantum House and saw life from an entirely different perspective. She even said she could see herself "working at a place like that." Thanks for seeking out this opportunity and making it available to our kids.
This is a tangible example of our mission statement fulfillment as students connected the academic learning to a recognized need, and then stepped out and served our community to fill that need. Thank you to our fifth grade teachers and all our parent volunteers for making this visit possible.
As we reflect on the many things for which we are thankful, I want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you: We are thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here. We are thankful for the parents who continue to share their most valuable possession with us and advocate to be a partner in their children's education, safety and well-being. For this, we are ever so thankful.
We are thankful for the teachers, assistants, coaches, nurses, lunchroom aides, support staff, extended care staff and administrators who really care about student achievement and have the best interests of our students at heart. We are also thankful for our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school. Above all, we are thankful for the gift of salvation through Christ Jesus.
A Thanksgiving Prayer
Gracious God, For abundant food and the gift of family, we give you thanks. May our celebration of Thanksgiving be a reminder of the abundance of your love given to us freely each day. Open our eyes to the surprises held in each moment. With the deepest gratitude, we pray.
During this Thanksgiving holiday, I pray that you will enjoy time with friends and family. I pray you will have time to recharge, refresh, and reflect on the abundant blessings in our lives.
Many thanks, 700 S Delaware Blvd • Jupiter, FL 33458 • (561) 746-7800 |
