From the Desk of the President

Dear JCS Family,

What an exciting time in Jupiter Christian Athletics! Our Boys Varsity Basketball Team recently made JCS history by taking the title of 2019 Regional Champions, our Football Team became the SSAC District Champions, the Girls Cross Country Team achieved the title of FHSAA District Champions for the second year in a row, and our Middle School Flag Football Team are the League Champions. In addition to many individual student athlete successes, numerous JCS student athletes were selected from a pool of talented athletes throughout the county as Palm Beach Post/Sun Sentinel top area athletes for fall 2018 sports.

We are so proud of our student athletes, not only for their determination and hard work that brought them to exciting wins but also for their strength of character, good sportsmanship, and desire to reflect Christ-like characteristics both in and out of the athletic arena. At JCS, we believe that athletics is an excellent environment to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ and become more like Him through the testing of our faith. Interscholastic athletics should foster and cultivate traits of Christian character including diligence, responsibility, courage, loyalty, cooperation, self-discipline, good sportsmanship, competition, team play, and striving towards excellence. Our JCS Athletics Department encourages our student athletes to show love, unity, mental toughness, respect, integrity, encouragement, and enthusiasm as they strive for excellence in their sport, while always focused on their calling to love God and love others.

It is with great excitement that we announce our new Varsity Football Head Coach Baz Alfred! Coach Alfred brings a combination of enthusiasm and experience to JCS athletics and we are thrilled to have him on board to lead our varsity football team. Most recently leading the football program at Olympic Heights Community High School in Boca Raton, Coach Alfred took his team to a record of 6-4 in his first season there, defeating national powerhouse W.T. Dwyer High School for the first time in 20 years of Olympic Heights football. He increased the program to 100+ athletes by the end of his second year while encouraging high academic standards for his student athletes, with many moving on to play college football at universities such as Holy Cross and Yale. He has been twice nominated for head coach at the Palm Beach County All-Stars Game, which his team won back-to-back.

His coaching career includes leadership positions at area schools including Forest Hill Community High School in West Palm Beach and St. John Paul II Academy in Boca Raton. Coach Alfred holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Education from Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio.

Coach Alfred is excited to join the JCS Athletic Department and recently shared, "There is no better place than Jupiter Christian School for me to continue my mission of impacting and mentoring young men and women as they participate in athletics and grow in their spiritual walk with Jesus Christ." He and his wife, Mercedes, serve together in church from ushering to Sunday school, they love to share the message of Christ with others. Coach Alfred has been involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, growing a leadership committee within his previous football program.

We are pleased to welcome Coach Alfred to the JCS family and look forward to seeing how God will use his talent and experience to encourage and inspire our student athletes.

Blessings,

Dan Steinfield
