From the Desk of the President

Dear JCS Parents,

Jupiter Christian School is distinctively a nurturing community.  We seek to disciple students toward a genuine, unshakable, and mature faith in Jesus Christ.  We celebrate the diversity of gifts, talents, and abilities found in our community and assist students in identifying and developing their God-given gifts and talents for the glory of God.  Our core values of compassion and respect for all people and a commitment to family values, provide the foundation for our desire to partner with parents in the education of your children.  In the spirit of this partnership, I want to ensure our parents are informed of some of the latest cultural fads your students are facing.

A recent social media challenge targeting children and young adults called the "Momo Challenge," has created concern around the world due to its disturbing nature. The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of this challenge, provide you with information about it, and urge you to monitor your children's use of social media and the Internet. The "Momo Challenge," is a game found on YouTube, Kids YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, and other apps. It features a frightening avatar who asks its' viewers to perform various tasks and provide photos as proof. The "Momo" threatens those who do not perform the tasks.

The following articles will help you to understand what the "Momo Challenge" is about and how to help your son or daughter with the danger that it brings.

As a Christian school, we want to keep you informed about the things that are impacting your students. We want you to be ready to answer questions that arise. We urge you to use this as an opportunity to talk to your children about the Internet and social media, and how to use them wisely. These articles will help you set boundaries and have conversations with your children of all ages.

Jupiter Christian School is committed to excellence in teaching the mind, reaching the heart, and inspiring servant leaders who will impact the world for Jesus Christ. We want you to know you have a partner willing to help with vital issues your children face. In the next two weeks, our teachers, guidance department and director of spiritual life will be leading discussions with JCS students to emphasize how to be smart when using technology.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at dsteinfield@jupiterchristian.org. We deeply value the privilege we have to partner with our JCS families in the Christian education of your children.
