President's Perspective
Early Dismissel Monday 8/21

8/18/17

Dear JCS Parents,

We are off to an exciting start at Jupiter Christian School and we are so thankful for the opportunity to partner with parents in a Christian education.  We place a high value on the safety and security of each student and regularly review our procedures to ensure our plans are in the best interest of our families.  On Monday, August 21, Palm Beach County will experience the effects of a solar eclipse.  While an incredibly rare and amazing event, the eclipse must also be approached with an understanding of the risks of permanent eye damage from looking directly at the sun.  More information has become available over the last few days and many schools have adjusted their original plans to best provide for the safety of their students.

As the maximum stage of the eclipse is projected to take place between 2:00-3:30 pm, Jupiter Christian School will hold an Early Release of all students PK-12 on Monday, August 21st.  PK students will be dismissed at 11:15; US students will dismiss at 11:30; LS students will dismiss at 11:45.  No after school activities will take place on campus from 12:00-4:30 pm; after care will not be provided.  Athletic practices can be scheduled after 4:45 at the individual coach's discretion.  For parents who would like to keep their child home for this historical event, it will be counted as an excused absence.

The Palm Beach County School District has additional solar eclipse safety information as well as educational activities on their website here.  Before Monday, we ask that you speak to your child about the dangers of looking directly at the sun and the potential damage this can cause to their eyes. Looking directly at the sun is unsafe and permanent eye damage may occur. This is especially true during the partial phases of a solar eclipse. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun; they transmit too many of the sun's rays and cannot properly protect your eyes.

We thank you for the privilege to partner with you in Christian education for your children. I hope to see you at our home opening football game today with opening kickoff at 4:00!
