Duane Reiff, 2015 JCS Graduate

My JCS Senior Capstone helped me to really look at what I was passionate about and I knew that I wanted to find a way to go into the business world and provide funding for non-profit organizations and ministries who do so much to help others. During my internship, I discovered that the major problem for these kingdom building organizations is lack of funding, and I wanted to find a way to link successful businesses with these organizations. I will be graduating from PBA this year and heading out into the business world to work to make a difference.”

“I had been in the theatre program for years as a student at JCS and that is where my interest for theatre and the arts really began and grew. I loved the arts but noticed that there has been a decline in interest in theatre in the younger generation, and I wanted to find a way to help bring that back.
During my JCS Senior Capstone, I did an internship in the field of theatre education, and I had the opportunity to assist with middle school classes where I served as a student director. It was in the classroom that I found the focus of my project which was to look for ways to spark an interest in theatre in younger students and help this art form remain relevant for them for the future. I also loved being able to share with the students I worked with that by using their creative talents, actors can celebrate and glorify God.
Upon completing my JCS Senior Capstone, I found that I became more comfortable and confident especially in the area of public speaking. I have had to do similar multi-media presentations at Palm Beach Atlantic University and this project really prepared me for that challenge.”

“My passion for video gaming began when I was a young kid. My parents were missionaries in Ecuador and because it was an international community, it was sometimes a challenge establishing and maintaining friendships. When my best friend, who I always played video games with, moved to Australia, we were able to keep in touch and remain friends through video gaming. Gaming has stuck with me since then and I knew this was the topic I wanted to do for my JCS Senior Capstone Experience.
I was able to do my internship in the area of technology education where I examined how video gaming could fit into education and identified where there might be a need for this unique tool especially for elementary and middle school students.I noticed that there weren’t any dedicated classes to teach students how to type and I was able to develop a video game that made it fun for kids to learn this important skill.
Now that I am in college, I can see how my JCS Senior Capstone Experience prepared me for university level studies. During the project, I developed a strong work ethic due to multiple deadlines, gained confidence to reach out to a variety of people and learned
valuable presentation skills that I now use in my classes at Florida
Polytechnic.”
